Dattebayo are subbing Denno Coil
Dattebayo recently started fansubbing Denno Coil. The same 26-episode Denno Coil from 2007 that has already been completely subtitled to a high-standard by Ureshii. Don’t get me wrong, with their massive popularity amongst the shonen lovers, anything Dattebayo decide to subtitle will benefit from a higher profile than usual, and the thoroughly excellent Denno Coil certainly deserves that attention, but even still, I find their decision to work on it a bit puzzling. Aren’t they just seriously wasting effort, especially when there is still so much anime out there that remains completely untouched? As for myself, I wouldn’t mind seeing something like Genius Party fansubbed at some point.

better phrase: who doesn’t wanna see Genius Party (or in general, 4C works) subbed.
Dattebayo has a page on their site that states that they’ll sub anything if you pay them. though (reading through their latest feedback page) it seems as if they’re doing it out of genuine interest, i’m puzzled as to their motives.
maybe they just don’t like Ureshii, and are trying to kick some e-shit up into the fan. or maybe i’m just speculating.
It’s definitely weird. I mean, if they really wanted to promote Denno Coil, they could just go and host Ureshii’s batch torrent on their site and plug it that way. I guess it’s just one of those baffling things about the fansubbing community, like how subtitling anime is more about the status/popularity/respect it can earn a group, regardless of whether or not their effort is even useful in the first place.
And oh yeah, Genius Party looks great, doesn’t it? Shinichiro Watanabe, Masaaki Yuasa, Koji Morimoto and Kazuto Nakazawa have all contributed, so I’m absolutely gagging to see it.
GENIUS PARTY! I’ve been waiting for a long time for it. I even considered flying to D.C. in February to see it. Genius Party Beyond looks even better.
Subbing an already subbed anime seems strange. The only thing that could make a well subbed anime better are language or cultural notes (like the joke explanations in Yakitate). I thought the notes that some groups did for Ergo Proxy were interesting. But who knows what Dattebayo’s intent is?
I’m thinking they just did this as a joke because they’ve still not done ep #2 for a month.
