GaoGaiGar

Things just got real. 5 episodes in and I’m loving it already… Struggling to satisfy my inner fan-boy with these few words alone; expect a (hopefully coherent) post on GaoGaiGar at the weekend. It’s amazing just how much it reminds me of Gurren Lagann. So much so, even the lead character in this series (Guy) is voiced by a certain Nobuyuki Hiyama - also the voice of Viral; that’s no coincidence - as far as I can tell, GaoGaiGar is basically the precursor to Gurren Lagann. As if wasn’t obvious enough already, I’m extremely pleased to have found this show.

I’ve had this one lying around waiting for my attention for a while now (’Yuusha-oh Tanjou!’ being something of a favourite tune for its over-the-topness). I look forward to reading your take on it.

The precursor to Gurren Lagann? Where!? Have to see!

my buddy chris watched this one and made me and my friends download the first OP

so whenever we drove to lunch he would hijack the stereo and play it every day

needless to say he almost blew my speakers out playing it so loud with the windows down. and that was the day I realized I will never have sex with the girls from my high school

I still think ‘Tobe! Gundam’ is better for getting the blood flowing but not much beats yelling gagagagagao gai gar at the top of ones lungs

I’m up to episode 8 now and it’s more like combination of Gurren Lagann and Transformers. It’s not as good as the former just yet, but fans always say that GaoGaiGar gets a lot better about half-way through. Yup, at the moment, I’m kind of hesistant to recommend it because it’s kind of treading a thin-line between sublime epic and cheesy mecha porn. It’s the mecha equivalent of a magical girl anime, inc. transformation sequence that’s reused in every episode.

@Barclay: Haha, I feel sorry for your school days self!

@Xerox: See above, I don’t want to let you down with a bad recommendation or anything.

@IKnight: I know you’ll love GaoGaiGar and actually, I’m surprised you haven’t seen it already!
